Celebrating Stories of The AMP

Online event recorded on March 18, 2021
Hosted by Leonard Garfield (MOHAI Executive Director & AMP Steering Committee member) in conversation with Rosette Royale and project assistant Aaron Bear to celebrate the stories collected for The AMP. They share clips and recount the challenges and rewards encountered with this work.

The AMP enlisted Rosette Royale in March 2018 to go into communities and gather stories about HIV/AIDS. Supported by funding from the Department of Neighborhoods and the City of Seattle, Royale has collected numerous accounts from those connected to our region’s history with AIDS.

The initial goal was to interview people of color and people from other underrepresented communities, which led to stories from many long-term survivors and those involved in activism, caregiving, and AIDS service organizations. With the completion of this initiative, The AMP now has dozens of videos in its collection that convey a wide variety of experiences from more than 50 resilient people willing to share their stories.
